Robert C. Ryals of Westampton passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, in the Samaritan Hospice Unit in Mt. Holly, surrounded by his loving family. He was 89. Robert was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. and had been a longtime resident of Westampton. He was a retired sgt. first class in the U.S. Army. Robert served his country for 23 years active duty and another 20 years Civil Service. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam Wars. Robert was a member of the Westampton American Legion No. 509 and a member of the Senior Gathering of Westampton. He enjoyed going to the casinos, playing cards, playing scrabble, bingo and playing basketball with his grandson. Robert's biggest love though, was his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed by all. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Ryals Jr. and his sister, Fannie Lind. Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margarete E. (Loos) Ryals; two daughters, Cynthia Ryals-Bruce and Monica (Ryals) Watley; grandchildren, Monique, Nolen and his wife, Rena, Jasmine and Michael, as well as Nikki; and his two sisters, Luetta Henderson and Maida Sessoms. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the Lee Funeral Home, 317 High St., Mt. Holly. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 12, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service with full military honors in the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle's Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown.
