October 30, 2014 Myrtis Sykes has been in the American Legion and a member of Post 197 for more than 30 years! Mxs.Sykes has served as Vice Commander and currently serves as Historian for a second term. Northern Area Commander Jerry Brandt recently visited with longtime Post 197 Adjutant Clarence Richardson. Commander Brandt of Post 129, Atlantic Beach attended the Annual  Community Picnic.

Post 197 Membership Drive is On! ELIGIBLITY If you are currently on active duty, serving the United States honorably, anywhere in the world, or have served honorably during any of the eligible war eras,  you  are eligible to become a member of The American Legion Post 197.If you are a member, but you have not renewed your membership, now is the time. Keeps you at the front of the line for Legion events, Good at any Legion Post in the Country, Free entry to the $30.00 “Early Bird Dinner,” Free Drink each First Friday*, Free Mothers’ Day Dinner, Free Veterans Day Barbecue, Free Entrance to all Post events, Reduced prices for New Year’s Eve, Free use of the Post for events, Monthly Newsletter, Free Insurance Policy, Discount Prices on Car rentals and Discount Prices  Hotels. Our success depends  on active membership, participation and volunteerism.
